Quite a shame how people respond
RE: Quite a shame how people respond
As for the OP..."The Rules of Logic" are only valuable if everybody is playing by them. Should one side refuse to play by the rules, the gloves can come off, and it becomes an all out free-for-all! Ad Hominem Away! 2 wrongs don't make a right within the rules of logic, but when we throw it out the window, we can call people Fuck-tards all day long and enjoy it!

Absolutely...because I wouldn't take lessons in it from a years-long troll.

Only if I wanted to be one.

But he missed the point of the question. I asked why we should give a shit about blasphemous words, as atheists. It has nothing to do with maturity to say "these words have no magical power because I don't believe in a god" - it's a sign of rationality (since they have no power even if you do believe in one).

You we're talking about your propensity to swear generally.

Not that fr0d0 is a troll (he's more a garden gnome)... but even if he were: there's still a thing or two one might pick up Smile (not counting STDs)

On the subject of awesome things for this place: whateverist has seriously gotten hilarious, of late ^_^ I mean... come on, "Nothing like immature pussy. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it."

If I could give him more reputation, I would.

Go back and read the whole thing again, Frods. It was definitely about blasphemy.

There was a time, yep I'm that old, when the word was rarely used, and when it was used, people paid attention. Today, it's just background noise. Or it just means that the user lacks imagination in transmitting a better message.

I think there's an upside to that. It's one of those words that, when you think about it, shouldn't really make people cringe on its own. It's really just an exclamation with no real force by itself. Call someone "a stupid fuck" and they'll take more exception to the word "fuck" than to the word "stupid," even though the real insult is that you're calling them stupid. Doesn't make sense.

It's even worse when you get comedians who think that just saying the words is funny enough. "Politics? What the fuck is up with that??? (laughter)" <-- if you're telling that joke on a stage, I hope it's because it's amateur night and you had a few too many drinks.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
