There is no indication of what book they were burning, and I doubt that it was the bible. Fascist governments supported religion, as they disapproved of ¨godless communism¨.

Book burning in any form is stupid.

And why is that? It can be symbolic, as to represent a movement towards a greater, or utopian society.

As a southerner myself this is nothing new to me. Sadly most schools outside of metropolitan areas in the south are biased and tend to cover up these cases of religious backing by an authority figure. It certainly was in my schools.

My opinion is that just like there is the zero tolerance policy for students regarding violence and drugs, there should be a zero tolerance policy for teachers against this sort of talk. It's against the law and immoral.

I've lived in TN for 17 years by the by, before Godsnitwit decides to ask me what I know of the south.

I never noticed teachers saying these things until now, it seems. I guess it is because of how long I was under the delusion of god.

In school I identified as a Christian, so it never bothered me and was a nonissue. Thinking back on it, had I been an atheist or even a follower of another religion I would have taken major issue with it. As well as the half assed attempts and scoffing remarks while teaching evolution.

If I play Google bus boy for you and go look up all the bible texts you claim don't exist, what's in it for me?

Can I get a Rep point?

How about if I get 10 verses which establish my theological/biblical claim?

How about if I get 20 verses, 10 in the OT and 10 in the NT?

How about we have a formal debate on the proposition?

...that the bible supports the doctrine that there is neither Jew nor gentile, neither free man nor slave, and that God wants everyone to be saved - all nations - because He loves us.

What if I give you 10 quotes from the Qur'an on the same thing, would you then become a Muslim or admit the Qur'an as holy scripture?

Ask a Muslim whether they think Jonah, Noah, Moses, Lot, Abraham, etc all worshipped the One True God.

Islam and Judaism and Christianity have some major differences, but line them up side by side and then, compared to atheism, they may as well be identical.

Okay, what if I asked you to recite 10 lines from the illiad, or the ancient religious teachings of Egypt? You are but evading the subject. The fact is that the words of the bible hold as much weight as the words of a fantasy novel.
Also, comparing three religions to atheism and saying they're all the same is as sensible as comparing an apple, a mushroom, and a zucchini to a domino and saying the apple, mushroom and zucchini are all the same.

That was me, saying that, just now. It is now a written reference in history, created by a human, just like everything in the bible. It automatically carries at least as much weight as the bible in any discussion on ethics. That's how reason works lads, the bible doesn't trump a thing.

Really? You just 'say stuff' and it automatically carries weight? Confused Fall
