Dinner. A St. Peter's old style porter and vanilla chai tea smoothie to drink, and pre-flavored spanish rice with ponzu sauce and some brown sauce with a bunch of Vietnamese on the label. It was in the food section, so I'm assuming it's edible. And for dessert, a lychee pudding cup.
Ahhhhh. The life of Riley.

Watching a documentary called Victorian Pharmacy.
People did crazy things back then and it was almost completely business and no science/medicine. They even made "cure all" medications that they knew cured nothing and were relying completely on the placebo effect to earn money. And they would prescribe very high doses so people would come back and buy more, one of the pills were prescribed so that people took more than 1000 pills per week. Fed opiates to babies too. But at the same time they experimented very freely because there were zero regulations.

I'm having vegetarian pizza tonight. I'm not vegetarian but I'm scared of preserved meats so I try to limit my intake of that stuff as much as possible.

Eating some goat cheese, salame, spicy deli chicken and sesame crackers while I wait for my girls to show up for our regular Friday drinkfest. Listening to System of a Down. It's cold and rainy here, dammit. I'm spoiled.

You want to keep in mind that dosage is everything when you're talking about toxicities. How much are you truly expose to if you were to eat preserved meats? Also there's no way to safely store meat if you don't use preservatives.
Personally I'm a vegetarian but I don't sweat over things like food colouring, etc. etc. I rarely eat foods that are "products" though, I think if I ate a lot of packaged products I would be more concerned. Mostly I eat at home or in restaurants.
If you order baked goods (pizza), you should keep in mind also that it probably has transfat and food additives, I'm sure they use preservatives as well ... no? I mean businesses store their food for longer periods of time than we do at home.
ETA: a friend of mine recently reviewed a lot of the papers concerning nitrosamine and I think she said the levels people are exposed to varies as it depends on their diet (how much antioxidants they eat) and their body size. So it's hard to say.

Right now, the only preserved meat I have on a regular basis is sandwich meat.
My diet is very different now that I live on my own. Really the only "junk food" I have anymore is frozen pizza one night a week. Everything else I make from scratch.

Aren't all the meats sold on the supermarket somewhat "preserved"? I mean they have additives in it to increase their shelf life right? Or do you get it from the butcher?
Hm, I know so little about buying meat.
