Phil from Duck Dynasty gets in trouble for being against homosexuality

For those who don't know, Duck Dynasty is a reality TV show about rednecks having more money than they know what to do with. Phil is one of the elders of the show, though he's more of a side character. There has been news on youtube about him saying he doesn't understand why someone would be gay, and it's a slippery slope to bestiality, and it's not god's way. He got suspended from the show.

Now some people might be cheering, but personally I don't see a huge deal. It's not like this kind of thing comes up on the show. He's an elderly christian man, living in the bible belt. Why would the fact that he's against homosexuality surprise anyone? Sure he said some wrong things, but I doubt he's the only one on the show who holds this view. Duck Dynasty would probably be off the air if they got all of them together and asked their opinion on the subject.

I don't think he should have been suspended, unless the whole cast comes on and says they're totally for homosexual relationships. It seems a bit harsh. The company behind the show should have just stated the obvious, that one cast member's opinion doesn't always coincide with the views of the company, and leave it at that.

I like the show, and hope to see him back. What do you guys think?

Don't see the huge deal? The fucking channel airing this shit you call a TV programme is directly endorsing this man's distorted and downright sick opinions, just by airing it.

Why anyone would choose to watch this utter crap is beyond me, I mean, I actually like Pawn Stars and some of the other shit the history channel puts on, but damn, Suck Dynasty literally is TV for retards IMHO.

They're not endorsing it. This kind of stuff doesn't come up in the show. He just said it in an interview. DD isn't any different from any other clice of life show, except it's supposed to be "real".

Ok my bad I didn't realise it was in an outside interview. Thought it was said on the show. Even still, as a guy who labels himself an anti-theist and who presumably has the intellect to realise just how sick the guy's views are, why are you adamant on defending him? I think it should be down to the discretion of the show, if they don't want to be associated with those sorts of bigoted views them fair fucking play to 'em I say.

I grew up around this kind of stuff all my life, and even though I think it's wrong, I don't really see it as bad as long and someone's not killing people over it or something. It's like if I met someone who was racist, I'd disagree with him or her but not think too much of it. If I found some people about to hang someone because they were black, I'd be calling the police and maybe grab something and try to chase them off.

Also I don't want to think of my mother and grandmother as sick, twisted, evil people. They just have outdated views.

Don't watch the show and really don't care if he comes back or not.

That being said, it does kinda bother me the way the media framed the discussion. He said some homophobic things, no doubt, but he said some really racist things, too. Yet all we're focusing on is the homophobia. Don't get me wrong, I hate that kind of religious gay bashing, but the right can now find a way to frame it as a poor, innocent straight guy, just voicing his opinion and being punished for it. If the media has pointed out that he said some really racist shit, everyone would have wanted his head on a stick; I mean, how much have you seen Faux News pushing for Paula Dean to get her show back?

I also don't watch the show. Nothing of interest in it for me. I'm not in the least surprised the man holds these views. He has every right to express them. Everyone else has a right to express their displeasure with them -- including the folks who are in charge of the channel that airs his show (thought it was A&E, not the History Channel). Old Phil can think and say what he likes. He doesn't have the right to expect zero consequences.
