What deism has done for the world

Why would atheists and deists be unlikely bedfellows? My wife is an atheist so that's literally the case in my life. Smile

The only difference between me and an atheist are some abstract philosophical musings, so much so that they have no practical impact on how I live my life.

I see no reason to think God wants to be worshiped or is even aware of us on any personal level (think scientist and a cultivated bacteria colony in a dish and that's the scale I perceive). I also have no "souls" to save (I don't believe in an afterlife). There is no church organization I'm seeking to promote. There are zero meaningful conflicts between deism and atheism.

You stated that if Christians are correct then Christ failed to do anything about the crusades and inquisition. Is that not what you said?

In fact you said He did nothing at all. Is that not what you said?

Or am I lying?

I have no problem with teachers reading various different texts from various different worldviews in class so long as the Bible is included.

In fact I would encourage them to do so. Not every Christian shares this view that is not in dispute. So Mister Agenda I would support you in your endeavor to have it added to the public school curriculum.

The simple fact is, you all can't be right.
That's why it's ALL a sham.

It's history. Do you dispute it?

How can a hypothetical be history?

Do you dispute the atrocities? Do you dispute there was no divine intervention to stop them? This is history. What part of my point do you argue against?

I am just trying to understand if this is an argument you are making or if you are just stating an opinion on the issue, thats all.

If it is an argument then what is your conclusion?

Lack of Divine Intervention in times of distress, etc... isn't what caused me to abandon my faith. If a god exists, maybe he just lets things happen, and human nature take over? Lets the chip fall where they may? Why do some people presume that evidence of a Deity, would mean he is going to swoop down to save the day, like a super hero?

This could be due to the over exposure of the 'Christian' god. Not all religious people view God as those who follow one of the Abrahamic faiths might.

If a god exists, maybe he is indifferent.

That is an argument I don't think atheists should 'use,' because a god that allows for bad things to happen, doesn't disprove his existence. (There are better arguments to 'use.') lol

Evidence of the type of deity who wants us to worship him would motivate people to worship him. Of course even knowing he existed wouldn't convince everyone unless he was actually a good guy. Which Yahweh obviously isn't.
