What is your phobia?
#31
RE: What is your phobia?
Heights. Elevators. Escalators. Mannequins. Dolls. Statues. (Doctor Who didn't make that one any better. Thanks a lot, Doctor Who!) Bugs crawling on me while I sleep. Trying to kill a bug and it gets away and calls all its friends into action to get revenge. Snakes. (Aladdin and Harry Potter made that one worse.) Ninjas killing me in my sleep. Being raped.

I should note that I'm perfectly willing to confront most of these phobias. I've been on a swinging bridge over a canyon and even when my dad started making the bridge sway like an asshole I was scared, but I was okay.

Here's a funny one.

I'm ok with Injections.
I'm OK administering injections (including nerve blocks which are tricky). I have to be, I do it daily.
I'm OK with students, who've never done it before, sticking an inch or so of needle into my ankle whilst shaking like a leaf in a gale and accidentally spearing my tibial nerve (which fricking hurts) so they can practice.
Buuuut, I'm not OK with watching the above on any kind of screen. It makes my squeam curl up inside me like a fern. I once made an instructional video on ankle blocks where I administered some, and was the dummy for others. That was fine but I refused to help with the editing because watching it weirds me out.

Anything to do with blood vessels particularly injections or having blood taken. I almost passed out in biology when there was a lesson on the watch pockets in the veins showing how they bulge if blood is forced the wrong way....urgh i feel funny just typing that....

Now I have a Thomas phobia too.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

He does look slightly demonic there...

He's also a helpful engine...

I used to be afraid of needles. Just when I thought I was getting over it, I had a really bad experience getting my blood drawn (I will never forget one nurse telling the other to push in the needle harder). I have since recovered and only get a little nervous about such things.

My other fear is socializing IRL with people outside my family.

I used to think it was needles. I don't care for needles, and I can't watch them pierce skin, but I can handle them if I need to get a shot or blood drawn, or whatever. I discovered my real fear is being trapped in an elevator. I found this out when I got trapped in an tiny, stuffy elevator with my sick husband and a pregnant lady with her two screaming children for about 4 minutes. I almost broke down in a panic attack. Now I can't stand getting on elevators. When the doors close, I think they're never going to open again. When I can, I opt for the stairs. I freaking hate elevators.
