Okay, so say you have a medical condition, a serious one and you need a surgeon. Would you be okay if he prayed before surgery or was a christian.

My only concern would be - is he a good surgeon? Whether he prays, consults his horoscope or practices the occult doesn't bother me outside of that - as long as he is not relying on any of those things to perform the surgery. Newton was as mad as a box of frogs - but is contribution to physics remains undiminished.

Yes, if he's competent. A group of doctors and nurses saved my life last year. I didn't give a fuck what their position on the existence of deities was.
Just so long as they don't substitute medical practice for heeby jeeby woo, then I'd be fine with whatever.

My dad is a theist and a surgeon, I'd trust him. As much as I'm against religion it doesn't mean I think that the religious are bad at their careers. Competence and skill above all else. So long as they dont say something like: "I'll be praying for you"
That really would be annoying. ....actually, that could be quite worrying!
As long as my surgeon doesn't let Jesus guide the scalpel, I'm fine with it. I'd sooner his/her years of training and experience guide the scalpel.

As long as he/she consults medical texts for information concerning the procedure to be performed on me, and not the Koran, Bible, Vedas, Zend Avesta or any other Bronze Age text.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
