That's what I'd like to know - and what the OP appeared to be advocating. I personally fins the idea of criminalizing it reprehensible.
It's not ethical but it shouldn't be a crime, it doesn't hurt society enough to be considered so. But if a parent propagates hate trough religion and incentives crimes such as murder it can be considered a crime. It's called 'murder propaganda' where I live.

Whew, murder propaganda eh? I'd say that toes the line, but stays on the good side of it...lol.
We have similar rulings against "incitements to violence" and other variations but you have to get pretty drastic for a conviction on that one.

Let's be clear what you were advocating: substituting *your* preference for what parents out to teach their children for what they believe is correct. Call it whatever you like, but that's what it boils down to.
Is that mischaracterizing what you said?
Yeah, it is. Teach is misleading. I was referring to indoctrinating, which I consider to be a way of imposing one's thoughts on others because they're not letting them think critically about these matters.
Because *you value critical thinking*. They do not. How is this not substituting what you judge to be valuable, over what they judge to be valuable?

No, but damn, it felt good, and it was a hell of a lot kinder than saying what I really think of your values, which by the way, I would defend to the death your right to teach them to your children, regardless of how reprehensible I might find them.

What is "mens rea"? and "actus reus"? Indoctrination may lead to acts against society if the message is to harm someone else. If indoctrination is "peaceful" and it does not lead to "mens rea" and "actus reus" then it is alright to believe it. Usually, the person commits a tort(criminal act) and then "mens rea" is deciphered afterwards (To figure out criminal intent because of the action or attempted act). NO ONE IS TRYING OR ATTEMPTING TO SETUP A THOUGHT POLICE FORCE! This is ridiculous and impossible.

Yes there is also a crime of 'incitement to racism', 'incitement to suicide' and others pretty similar. But again mere thoughts are not punishable.

God I guess, since he's so emotionally hurt that you'd think something like that. Same with not putting him first in your life. He's really sensitive, you know?

There is no victim.

I don't think thoughts are the prerogative of government-- only behaviors are. Not even imposed ignorance should be a crime-- because in modern society, ignorance of the "truth" is unlikely to negatively effect a person's ability to work, to breed, or to provide. So if parents want to teach their kids goofy ideas about ancient desert mythologies, but work to feed them, and to raise adults capable of working for their keep, then meh.
