"We wouldn't need laws if everyone were Christian."

Hmm. Most laws are designed to protect someone's rights in some way. If everyone were Christian...

Hmmm.

This might be true, y'all!

I see that Christianity and values is the basis of our society. . . . 98% of us won’t murder people, won’t steal, won’t break the law and it helps a society to have that religious underpinning. You still need to have the laws but I think it helps to have a people who believe in law and order and who have a moral compass or a moral basis for their day to day life.

He said no such thing... don't misread him: look at the bolds again. I don't like Ron Paul... but frankly: I don't see how this is digging deeper.

This interview is about Rand Paul, not his father.

Good catch Blush I skipped right on over those letters... Blush

It doesn't really change anything though. John Adams and John Quincy Adams... George Bush and George W. Bush... Ron Paul and Rand paul: you'd swear that these 'sons' were just the father with makeup... but then you see them dining together.

They're pretty much identical in terms of their politics.

Ron Paul talking about his son in a recent interview:

Quote:Alan Colmes: Do you and he part company on any major issues? Is he very much where you are on major issues of the day?

Ron Paul: I would say on the major issues we’re very close, but I think his tone is different, I think his approach is a little bit different, I think he’s a little bit more into legislating and working things out, and I’ve been more into the philosophic end of things. So I think the approach is slightly different, the wording is slightly different, but if it comes to issues like the Federal Reserve, he’s not going to come out and say “I love the Fed and I don’t think it should be audited” or “I love the income tax, we should raise taxes.” Nothing major is going to be different.

Alan Colmes: So you would say that he’s probably a libertarian Republican much as you are versus one who might follow the party line about a lot of issues.

Ron Paul: Yes, I think so. But he answers that question almost like I do. “Am I a Libertarian?” I say “Well, first I take my oath of office seriously and I believe in personal liberty.” But I happen to believe the founders were Libertarians. They didn’t want to regulate the market nor did they want to regulate personal lifestyles. And they had a non-intervention foreign policy. So that’s libertarianism and I think people who want to use that word usually want to use to that make us look negative. But it’s getting to the point where believing in liberty is not necessarily a negative anymore. I think we’ve made some progress.
He who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

Rand? Odd name, but not int the South I guess. (I mean, "ELVIS"?)

Is it likely it's for Ayn Rand? Just curious, someone may have read one of her books to his father.

Did you hear? The George W Bush library was destroyed by fire.

Yes ,there was a fire at his ranch. The Winebago--cum-library was burned to the ground. The entire library was lost, with both books reduced to ashes. Sadly, Dubya had not even finished colouring them in.Angel Cloud

It's short for Randal, but it wouldn't be a stretch to assume it's related to Ayn Rand.

I know you're just jesting, but you're not giving Ron Paul a lot of credit. Paul is one of the most principled, consistent lawmakers in the US Congress. He's well studied in the fields of biology and economics, and has frequently cited the works of Ayn Rand as being an influence to his philosophies. Whether you agree with him or not or his political stances, comments like these should be reserved for the legimitately corrupt, uneducated congressman, not the little guys who are truly fighting for what they think is right.

Sure, there's probably a confusion here between correlation and causation, but it still invalidates Rand's statement.

Hi, welcome to the forums! I was actually making a joke. If everyone were Christian, there wouldn't be many rights left to protect... yeah... not a good joke, I know.
