I'm new here
May 29, 2010 at 12:07 am
Hello All
I’ve been reading this forum for several months now and have finally decided to join. I have been an atheist since I was about 15 years old (I’m now 51). I live in the “Bible Belt” (Florida) and I am surrounded by Christians of every sort – most of whom I find to be woefully ignorant of the religion to which they claim membership and most are hypocrites, at best. Anyway, I love a good debate with any theist, and I hope to be able to add some meaningful input to the forum from time to time.

I should say you were an atheist from conception until you became a believer in gods... and also an atheist from the point of no longer believing in gods.
As you've been reading for months... i should hope I don't have to tell you not to take me seriously

Hmmm... when are they (meaningful input and good debate) not? Or were you just supposing that the situation might arise where they are not?

Some people here, on both sides of the theism debate, would prefer nothing more than to hold their own views and keep in minimal contact with people with opposing beliefs. I was also supposing the situation will could up.

I agree - I was born without any religious views, and only became a "believer" after being told what delusions to believe as a child. Fortunately, I grew out of that relatively quickly.
downbeatplumb - you are correct. My kids showed me the HR website several years ago and Strongbad is a character I liked.

Welcome, Strongbad! I think you'll find this place entertaining as well as informative... but if you've been reading for months, you already know that! In that case, I agree with Minimalist. It's about time!
