Well, if the you want that character to be the bad guy, i think that is a great appeal to emotion on that character.

It seems nobody likes my suggestions I suppose that's a sure sign I should never write a novel
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day

Well, just because we don't like it doesn't mean you shouldn't write anything. Here, people are used to think, so if at the end of the book, the main character prays real hard and win, its a sure sell (Deus Ex Machina).

Very extreme. But extreme doesn't=bad (when it comes to stories at least ).

I think it was fairly obvious, since I was replying to one person's post and quoted it at the top. I fail to see how my words could have been interpreted as a generalization of everyone else here.
I thought Pippy was being serious. She related my question about fiction writing to religious intolerance, which rubbed me the wrong way and I worded my response with perhaps a bit more severity than the situation called for. Not to be rude, but I don't see what any of this has to do with you, honestly.
I'm sorry that it took me so long to get to this. I have been swamped. Anyway, I apologize. If you look at your post, it can be misconstrued easily. I looked at it and thought that you were replying to pippy in your first bit and generalizing in the last bit. If you look at it that way, I'm sure you'll see where I was coming from.
As for it having anything to do with me, I wasn't aware this was an A, B conversation kind of thing. I was chiming in with my opinion, as people in forums are wont to do. I wasn't meaning to be offensive. I was giving my honest opinion and I think my advice on your original question is quite valid and given to the best of my ability. I will admit that I sometimes come off as snarky. That may have been where you got the idea I was being defensive. My response was given with a complete lack of emotion, I assure you.
Good luck with your book and, again, write whatever you want.
