Fantasy Island
I also belong to The Australian Atheist Foundation Forum.

There we have created 'Fantasy Island' which is a quarantine area for apologists and other woo merchants. (eg there is thread on "Zeitgeist'). The quarantine may be permanent or temporary, at the discretion of the moderators.

Residents of Fantasy Island may not post in any other forum area. I invite forum admin and other members to have a look at Fantasy Island to see if it might be useful here

RE: Fantasy Island
You already reside on Fantasy Island Pad. You need atheist only space because you cannot face opposition to your views, which weakens your position in my view. Why the need to make everywhere the same? Censorship of opinions is never a good thing.

"Celebrating Reason" is that forums tagline but reason dismissing philosophy doesn't leave much room for reasoning. "Denying Reason" seems more apt.

I can see that forum being useful in a place where atheists may want a space to themselves but still allow for some debate in other areas.

However, this forum, I think, enjoys the arguing and discussions and I personally wouldn't want AF to be like the Christian forums where atheists can't even access certain forums or if they post out of line they're removed.

Was a time I was a time I was opposed to the very idea of Fantasy Island. I recently changed my mind due to the rather distressing number of apologists who seem to be infesting this forum. I wouldn't mind if they contributed anything positive ,but from my perception most do not. Wading through their posts is like walking through a green field with large numbers of fresh cow pats hidden in the grass.

Below is a comment from one of the moderators on the other site:

We wondered how other viewpoints, even the patently unsupportable, could be presented without being (mistakenly) seen to be endorsed.

Yes,I like it. My favourite forum actually, although this is a close second, but slipping due to what I see as excessive tolerance of apologists.. We owe those people exactly nothing.

I don't quite get the point of the place. Is it a place for people to preach about their religion, or other form of "woo"? Because in that case, we'd just ban them.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, it seems like a place all theists would be confined to if they make claims without evidence, or something to that effect. Honestly, I wouldn't want the atheist forums, or the religious forums being an atheist sounding board of us all agreeing with each other. (Well, mostly, since we do argue some things).

If they do make such claims, why can't people just ignore them? If you don't want to discuss things with a theist, don't go to their threads, or put them on your ignore list.

So would I Adrian. In fact if I had my way, theists would not be permitted on atheist forums at all. (such is the case at Atheist Nexus)

I suggested Fantasy Island here as admin insists on allowing an infestation of theists.

OF COURSE I'm aware the problem is my intolerance. I make no excuses. I'm dealing with the problem by ignoring them as much as I can and by spending increasingly less time on this forum.

This is only an internet forum. I belong to several others and have just joined another. I stay here because it suits me. That means I derive enjoyment from being here. Having to dodge apologist ignoramuses reduces my enjoyment and causes irritation. If I want to be irritated I'll visit my family.
