s is not "compatible" with m and l when the other consonant letters in the word are p and c. Just wondering if you have already noted this in your analyses.

I'm sorry, I don't understand... I've been looking at this screen now for five and half hours, at least... and brain not functioning that well. Gonna go to bed in a minute but it's hard to pull myself away. Tibs said that it would be facepalm moment when we worked out which characters could replace... but I'm still not seeing it... but have you seen something obvious we're missing? As I said, having trouble braining so what are you saying?

Nothing too obvious yet.
What I'm wondering is how symbol works with b being compatible with m, l, and s, but:
popcorm, popcorl, and popcors work but not popcorb
Anyway, don't worry too much about it. I'm still tryign to figure this out myself.

erm... I think, though I'm not sure (not sure of anything any more ), we're talking about different things. The letters for symbol... including with interchangeable vowels... so symbal, symbel... il... and ...ul all valid... pass the test in any order, but what I'm trying to do here is find equivalent letters that can substitute into a given letter in that word, and there seems to be certain groups of letters that can do that. But how it fits into the bigger picture I have no idea. In other words, symbol as a group of letters sum up or something... a checksum or something to whatever passes the test, and certain other letters can substitute in and reach the same value, by mechanisms as yet unknown. Am I making any sense?

and I can't find a match for k... or at least not with a cursory test: one from each group found so far and each of the ones below, not yet in any group
