During a flashback scene, it shows a younger Brodie telling a younger, still-boy-Ruthie, that he sees her for who she really is when she finally comes out. At the time, they were both gay boys.

When Ruthie transitions into a woman, she's with a woman who doesn't appear to be interested in transitioning from female to male. Which further complicates everything, as though this new generation is more interested in making up shit than being realistic about human relationships. (a gay boy who transitions after all, doesn't switch interests in gender. Ruthie should still be sexually attracted to guys as a woman) It's disconcerting, because it appears as though the community is attempting to take a turn into fantasy. I'm certain they probably want to label me as a Boomer who just doesn't get it.

I can remember that when ContraPoints was transitioning, it took her a couple years for her to figure out that her sexual orientation didn’t actually change when she transitioned. She liked women when she was still pretending to be a man, and despite trying to be into men when she finally reached her true form, she eventually realized she was a lesbian all along. Going from a gay man to a lesbian? Is it strange that the only other point of comparison I can find for this is Mr/Mrs. Garrison from South Park?

It’s befuddling to see a fictional monster such as the Babadook, a shadowy figure with menacing white eyes and a maniacal grin, crowned an icon by members of the LGBTQ community. At least the chronically online ones, that is.

So, how did a monstrous manifestation of a widow’s grief turn into a beloved queer icon? Like many memes on the internet, the “Babadook is gay” meme started as an innocuous joke on Tumblr. A user named ianstagram was one of the first to joke about the Babadook’s orientation. They said, “Whenever someone says the Babadook isn’t openly gay it’s like?? Did you even watch the movie???”

Like with most jokes on Tumblr, other users continued building on the joke. And expanding the lore by pointing to “evidence” that the Babadook is gay. “I mean he created a pop-up book of himself for the drama of it all,” said one user. Seemingly (but also definitely jokingly) frustrated by commenters shutting down his theory, ianstagram responds by saying, “It may be ‘just a movie’ to you but to the LGBT community the Babadook is a symbol of our journey.”

A school in Florida sent an aggressive email comparing homosexuality to incest and bestiality to parents, letting them know that if their kids come out as LGBTQ, they’re going to get kicked out.

“Students who are found participating in these lifestyles will be asked to leave the school immediately,” read an email sent by Grace Christian School administrator Barry McKeen this past June. The email had the subject line, “Important School Policy Point of Emphasis. … Please Read.”

“We believe that God created mankind in His image: male (man) and female (woman), sexually different but with equal dignity,” read the email from the Valrico, Florida school.

“Therefore, one’s biological sex must be affirmed and no attempts should be made to physically change, alter, or disagree with one’s biological gender — including, but not limited to, elective sex reassignment, transvestite, transgender, or non-binary gender fluid acts of conduct (Genesis 1:26-28). Students in school will be referred to by the gender on their birth certificate and be referenced in name in the same fashion.”

“We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, transgender identity/lifestyle, self-identification, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery and pornography are sinful in the sight of God and the church (Genesis 2:24; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; I Corinthians 5:1; I Corinthians 6:9; I Thessalonians 4:2-7).”

The email said that parents would “have to agree to all policies and procedures before your student may start school in August.”

Hate-fuelled ‘Gays Against Groomers’ invited on Fox News about being suspended from Twitter

The group – whose account has now been reinstated – claims to be fighting against “indoctrinating and sexualising children”, which it says includes “drag queen story hours, drag shows involving children, the transitioning and medicalisation of minors, and gender theory being taught in the classroom.”

Its use of the word “groomer” to conflate queer identities with paedophilia is against Twitter’s hate speech policy, after the social media platform banned the word in July.

After the page was briefly suspended by Twitter, the group’s founder, Jaimee Michell, spoke to Tucker Carlson of Fox News to state that she and the group are “trying to protect children”.

She said the group’s Twitter page had been banned “three times in three months”.

She added: “In any moral society it [sexualising children] would be criminalised, what we see happening, and it should be criminalised… but that doesn’t seem to matter.

“The vast majority of our community [the LGBTQ+ community] stands so strongly against this.”
