What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
RE: What do you know today that you didn't know yesterday?
I figure that the larger success story he was telling to those donors was so fantastic that was his idea of scaling it back for realism. What was he going to tell them, the truth? That he'd failed as a dish network employee during that period of his life..or as a producer. If a producer, on some small rinky dink shit, or the biggest most bestest most make it great failure?

To a fantasist, failure and success must be of equally epic proportions.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Just finished watching HBomberGuy's video on plagiarism and James Somerton. I'm also in the middle of a video by (of all people) Todd in the Shadows about how, when he's not plagiarising other sources (which he may or may not have completely erased), the "facts" are often wrong. Some of them are just brain-breakingly insane, like:

1) Ernst Rohm was killed on the Night of the Long Knives, not for his homosexuality, or for any power struggle-related reasons, but because he's fat. Because, somehow, he (or whoever he lovingly ripped off) had never seen a picture of Goering.
2) He's literally sourcing The Pink Fucking Swastika, a homophobic propaganda book about how the Nazis were supposedly gay. As an openly gay YouTuber.
3) Somehow, there's a huge contingent of straight women who like watching gay love stories (true enough), but were alarmed to find out that gay male sex was a thing.
4) Rocky Horror Picture Show saved 20th Century Fox after the failure of Cleopatra. Even though it was made 12 years after Cleopatra. Even though by the time it actually started to make a profit, they had released Star Wars, which was, at the bare minimum, already well on its way to being the highest-grossing film of all time at that point.
5) Nick was squeamish about Legend of Korra because it had a PoC female protagonist. Even though it's a sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, the famously Asian-oriented show with a female deuteragonist (and primary viewpoint character) who's even darker-skinned than Korra.
6) "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was somehow controversial because simply talking about holding hands in a song was still taboo in 1963. There might have been some controversy among some people who thought "I Can't Hide" was "I Get High," but if hand-holding was taboo, I can only assume that the Everly Brothers' "Wake Up Little Susie" would have been downright pornographic when it hit #1 in 1957.
7) Also, apparently, the reason the US fought the Nazis was because they were jealous of the Arno Breker-level physiques the Nazis showed in newsreels. And apparently, even when the Soviet Union was winning Olympic Medals left and right (to the extent that the USSR is still the #2 in total Gold and Silver medals won in the Summer Olympics and #3 in Bronze; they did worse in the Winter, oddly enough), they were too bundled up for the Yanks to care about their physiques. Seriously, this sounds like a joke an uninformed gay stereotype would make, but he's saying it for real.
8) Somehow, NAMbLA could somehow use imagery from Disney's Aladdin and not get nuked into oblivion by The Mouse.
9) Gay activists in the 90s didn't care about employment discrimination?

I'm 41 minutes in. I know there's more, but I'm just listing the ones that made me do this with how obviously wrong they were:

After watching the rest of Todd's video on James Somerton, here are some more howlingly obvious lies:

10) Pirates were basically Robin Hood and not, well, pirates. And the only reasons this isn't well known are because England was particularly illiterate during the Golden Age of Piracy and academia forces this into obscurity for reasons.
11) Booing the prosecution is something juries can apparently do.
12) Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula is uber-faithful to the original Bram Stoker novel, Bela Lugosi's Fake Shemp from Plan 9 is supposed to be a vampire, and Anne Rice's vampires are sexless.
13) Kabuki and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf are master classes in subtlety.
14) Someone can apparently watch Yuri on Ice and not pick up on the fact that the main characters are supposed to be gay. Even though the fact that it's gay media is LITERALLY IN THE TITLE.
15) Katherine Hepburn, well into her 50s, had to have it explained to her that gay men were a thing, and consistently balked at the idea when she had it explained to her. Even though she's long been alleged to be LGBTQ. Even though she'd been known to have gay friends. Literally all she'd need to do is talk to George Cukor, her friend, and director of 8 of her 44 films, and ask, "Hey, George, is gay sex a thing?" and he'd tell her "Yeah, I do it all the time. Isn't that right, George Towers?"

I did not know that anal beads could apparently make you a better chess player, but it’s apparently a thing somehow.

After the british empire shrank from 1/4 of the globe, to a collection of 14 little patches that combined is about the size of 1/4 of a napkin,  the sun, remarkably, still never sets on the british empire.     The man who granted the once widespread empire this last minor dignity is none other than the famous Royal Navy mutineer Fletcher Christian of HMS Bounty fame.

For an hour and half each day,  between roughly 12 and 1:30am London time,  it is night everywhere in UK and all her 14 remaining oversea possessions except for one, Pitcairn Islands in the south pacific to which Fletcher Christian and the mutineers of bounty fled, and which remains populated primarily by descendants of the original mutineers.

if the UK keeps its current territories and borders, then the sun will finally sit on the British Empire over a thousand years from now, in 3217, When a total solar eclipse will put pitcairn into darkness when it is everywhere else in the British Empire
