Hey there... I think humanism is the way to go. I was prompted to look into it by Kurt Vonnergut Jr. Before reading all his books I'd never heard of humanism. I realize he wasn't really active, but just honorary president of some humanist association. and now dead. but I'm sure he's in heaven now 
Do yourself a favor and check out some of his books if you haven't already. Cat's Cradle or Player Piano are great famous ones. welcome aboard; I hope there's some cool action to get in on.
