Basically, if you hurt yourself (or your partner), or if it is taking up too much of your time and interfering with other things you need to do, then you should be thinking that maybe there is a problem. But if no one is hurt, and if you still have enough time to do the things you need to do (like eat and sleep ), it is probably not too much.
By "hurt" I meant causing damage, not merely pain, though I personally do not like pain nor do I wish to inflict it. If others enjoy that, that is their business, but it is not what I meant. My apologies for using an ambiguous word in my explanation.
