I think that certain areas of the world are over populated now. Unless something changes the entire world is headed the same way. Once the resources are over burdened and become a commodity worth fighting for then war is inevitable. With the inventive ways that humans have come up with for killing each other, I'm sure that the population will be put back in line (maybe taken past the line) with available resources. How about a Logan's Run scenario, you get to live to a certain age and then take one for the world team.
