His point was that even if rights were subject to approval by popular majorities (and they're not), gay marriage would have a solid majority of approval by the American public.

Anyone wishing to deny equality to an entire group of people based only on a single characteristic that is not illegal qualifies as a bigot to me. It has nothing to do with who agrees with whom, and everything to do with whether or not one would deny groups of people equal treatment.
