Actually I like Fluxbb. 2.0 is going to be especially sweet (it's still being developed), because you get to build the software module by module if you want. Flux is fast, stable, and simple. Not to mention it's easy to apply mods, and you start out small, therefore creating your own unique software package by implementing choice mods and modifying code as you please. Of course, if you want to start out with a lot of elegant and pleasing features, then MyBB is a good choice. At least in my opinion. I like SMF, but it's not my cup of tea to modify and manage.
