That part of the video was meant as a light-hearted joke anyway, hence the bit about him "buying a countdown clock" and holding up a crappy little clock. The main message of the video was clear; this guy is a douchebag, and it gets better for gay teens.

I would also like to add that it was probably also to point out that even though Takei thinks that guy is a douchebag he doesn't wish harm upon him.
