More evidence that the universe is older than our current models indicate?
MORE evidence? I thought the 13.7 billion year figure was pretty solid.
When I was a kid, the oft-quoted figure was 10-20 billion years. By the time I was a young adult, it had been narrowed to 10-15 billion years. When they came out with the study showing 13.7 billion years, I was impressed that they had the confidence to quote it down to a 100 million-year window. It would be pretty embarrassing if it were found to be substantially off that.
No, it wouldn't be. It is a step on the journey of discovery. We know why we thought it was 13.7 billion years old. If we found we were wrong, we would also know why the reason we thought it was 13.7 billion years old were not good enough.
The only time when being wrong is ambarassing is when one stake one's reputation on having the received truth. But thinking one has received truth is synonymous with being wrong.
