So far great job guys! It's obvious why I have not been posting: Members here have preferred to not answer the OP and have instead slided with saying that "God is just a word" (which is exactly the point...).

Until they decide to start explaining that word, I'll stay out of the debate.

Ok, fellow AF atheists:  I think trying to answer this might be a real bone-headed move, and if this devolves into muck and mire (worse than chunky PB&J) feel free to throw things at me.

So, JBrentonK, what EXACTLY is it that you want??  People have been answering your OP honestly.  People have been giving you their associations with the word "god".  And you reject them.   What are you asking for, then?   The history?  There have been thousands upon thousands of terms for "deity", across cultures, the meanings are varied and the topics too broad to address in a short forum answer.  Are you asking for a definition?  The internet has a lot of free dictionaries.  Are you asking for an emotional response? -- You got those too, the most accurate being "meh - no response".  How can I have an emotional response about something that I don't believe exists?   I don't get emotional over the tooth fairy or the easter bunny either.

I like the definition of "tool".  -- An imaginary construct that serves the purpose of either 1) an attempt to explain the unknown, or 2) a means for gaining power and control over others.
