Care of provide any examples of such organizations?
Of course it is, and it also makes sense to in some instances. Often you'll find people with more experience making more money than those with less experience, even in the same job.
A guy at work has the same job as me but earns more because he's been in the industry longer, and the company longer. If you take that away then a company would be forced to pay a new joiner the same as a veteran, which isn't going to go down well with the veteran.
An awful lot of the pay inequality issues between men and women boil down to two things:
1) Experience. Women are far more likely to take time out of work to raise children, and so will have less experience than their male counterparts when they return to work.
2) Negotiating Salary. I've heard of studies that say women are worse at negotiating salaries than men. Not sure if it's a big factor, but it might explain some of the inequality. It's not like companies have a set salary per job; it will vary based on the negotiation stage. I was offered a bonus as part of a pay raise and managed to negotiate so it was part of my regular guaranteed salary.
The pay varying with the number of years of experience in the field is very common and not limited to only the spectrum of women.
Granted that, women have to raise children and this takes them "out of the loop" for a few years reducing their years of experience on paper,is a legitimate reason;no corporation is going to give a free pass to anyone for reasons like this.
Where I live guys go work for labor jobs just so they can support their family at least for a few years. They get out of the loop for a few years reducing their years of experience on paper too. So I'm pretty sure this problem is not limited to only women.
About the part where you say that women are worse at negotiating salary - it's just an incompetence on the part of them really.
