You would have to be a special kind of stupid, to follow a leader that does not respect his own teachings.
I once put up this very question to a Muslim and his reply was that Mo already had more than four wives before Allah gave the command of limiting a man to four wives.
How is that an excuse? He continued on marrying afterwards. Also no I don't think he did. He wasn't that attractive before he became the messenger. He was a nobody shepherd married to his employer, an old woman he probably deceived.
