Whether or not he considered himself Christian doesn't invalidate Christianity (it is invalid, but for a host of other reasons). Doctrines and beliefs stand or fall on their value, not on their appropriation by sick and twisted psychopaths.

That's pretty much it. Atheist, pagan, theist, Christian, or whatever, Hitler was a monster. But that says nothing about atheists, pagans, theists, Christians, or whateverists.
However, Hitler deliberately appealed to Christians. And they responded. The Pope, Catholics, and Lutherans, responded. That, does say something.
Conversely, many of those who risked life and limb to save Jews were Christian. Those included Christians Catholic and protestant.
It seems to me that the response to Hitler was not exactly religious neutral as Hitler appealed directly to Christians, but faith lack there of was not the determinative reason for resistance or collaboration.
It seems moral fiber is independent of religion.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
