Different people believe, for different reasons.
Some people simply "feel that there is a God",
or were raised to believe in it and have found no reason to challenge that belief.
Some people need the promise of Eternal Life...or to know they'll see their loved ones again.
Some people need more forgiveness than any human can give (death row prisoners, for example)
Some people need the Unconditional Love.
Some people can't seem to be moral without their Belief;
Some people need to know that in the end, there will be Justice;
and that there is some sort of "reason" why bad things have to happen.
Some people just want a shortcut to all of their questions about the Universe to being answered.
It really depends on the upbringing and psychology of the Theist in question.
But in my experience, the worst types of Theists are the ones whose primary reasons for Believing,
are because they simply like to think God is "on their side"
and that anyone who opposes them will either be smitten with a judgment, in this life,
or burn in Hell for eternity.
These are the most smug, sanctimonious, disingenuous, manipulative, vindictive ones.
And they're usually pretty easy to spot.
They are not humble. They are sublimely arrogant.
And their slip is showing:
they obviously lack that fabled, inner Peace That Passeth All Understanding,
who only seem to find any satisfaction when passing judgments, or issuing put-downs.
