When was the first time you realized you were obsolete?
#21
RE: When was the first time you realized you were obsolete?
Things are a bit different for me, I think, and I have had talks with my psychologist about this. As you know now, I am physically disabled. I use crutches to walk. As such, during my 40 year (so far) life, I never get "sir". It's always "buddy" or "bro" or if by a woman, "sweetie/hunny/kiddo". I think some of that has helped me not evolve like a typical person would. Somehow, I find it easier to get along with early 20-somethings than people my own age.

I think I'm kind of rambling, so to try to bring it back on track, I do feel somewhat geezerly with some of the music that teenyboppers are listening to nowadays. Lorde? T-Swift? Some of these country hunks that have gone mainstream? Dunno about any of that. I do listen to a lot of NPR, which I think is fairly age appropriate. And I am listening to Bowie right now, and he was very big in my childhood. But I also listen to a lot of Arcade Fire, and Orbital, and other loud things, because sometimes, I still need to be woken up.

I also still don't have a smartphone. My phone is only good to talk to people with (Jitterbug). I also no longer have a functioning digital camera. I also don't generally go to Starbucks, but I don't lose my mind over it in a bad way either.

A big one is cars. Although I think there are some attractive cars made nowadays, I find it much, much harder to keep up with the industry like I did as a kid. Some of the cars I like now are from that era: Volvo 240, Toyota's compact pickups of the day, Celicas, 3rd-gen Camaros, S-10 pickups. Chevy vans. Etc, etc.

Interesting thread, OP. If I think of more, I'll be back.
