I've tried both of these ideas.  Twice.

No matter what I do, I cannot get Google back on my home/new tab option.  I fucking hate this shit.  It's such a pain in my ass.

Check your Add/Remove and uninstall anything that may be to do with Yahoo or some other advertising shit.

This is not necessarily malware by the way, to be clear. But it does sound annoying.
