To me atheism is just a term to say, " I am not interested in religious bullshit ". As for why I don't believe in religion? Well it's mainly because I care about truth
Thanks for your reply! Could you expand on that more? I'd like to know what you don't believe about religion, and why you think truth is opposite of religion. What is truth, and how do you define it?
I like this question.
Its answer can show just how flawed religion is. But the proponents of the religion will utterly fail to understand that point, because they are somehow convinced that they possess the truth brought to them by their god in person.
Truth is an accurate description of reality.
A statement is true when it correlates accurately with reality, either pertaining to events or to objects.
The problem arises when you bring forth statements and claim them to be true, but you have no real way of verifying them.
The party that is perceiving your statements has no way of verifying them. This other party can, however, understand that you yourself have no way of verifying them and should thus be put in a state of non-belief towards your statements.
If you have an alleged description of reality which is utterly unverifiable, odds are that you made it up, dreamed it up, hallucinated it, or were deceived into perceiving it.
(now do tell me how religions aren't guilty of this... can't wait...)
