In Germany, it is a time honored tradition for children to dress up as "Cowboys and Indians" for carnival each year. I would understand if it made any native American cringe big time, but it's a pretty innocent thing which is probably borne out of the popular Karl May young adult novels from around the turn of the century which are wildly inaccurate but provide the template for the native American stereotype in Germany.
