No, because they were sick of constant sex abuse scandals among the clergy, the abuse of their children, and idiotic rules that lead to the deaths of innocent people.

Plus the rcc and its proxies are no longer our only source of information. We're looking out into the world these days and have abandoned the narrow catholic parochialism.
Also the preoccupation with religious mores in Ireland was largely a result of the famine. Before it, while the country was mostly catholic, the church had nowhere near the amount of power it had from 1850 to 1990.
