I don't see how. I feel confident enough in my beliefs that other people not believing it doesn't bother me. That's all there is to it.
I actually have no issue with anything other's believe. But if someone is going to bring up a religious point then they shouldn't be so sensitive to a potential counter.
What I didn't mention is that this conversation was overheard by others at the pool table and they also jumped in. When this guy was unsuccessful at getting the group to agree with him (they were mostly a variety of science-related majors), he ended up just getting pissed off and telling everyone that we were going to hell before he left.
What often irritates me personally is that they equate religious guesses to scientific theory and get offended when someone explains why that is invalid.
