Necroing this rather than creating a new Doom thread to say that there are newer versions of Brutal Doom now 
Nothing beats Vanilla Doom for me though. I adore it. Vanilla Doom2 I mean, with Zdoom (so not quite Vanilla, I mean unmodded Doom 2 wads)
I can haz making Doom2 Wads with Doombuilder 2 too (I also love Heretic and HeXen, and you can make them with Doombuilder 2 too, in fact you can make any Doom 1/2 Doom engine game level with Doombuilder 2).
I also one day wanna make a Doom 2 themed Mafia game here at AF.
