The left is far left and the right is far right. Everything is bigger in America, including politics.

Boy, you don't know what far left is. Bernie's a moderate social democrat by European standards. You only have a point with red danger hysterics being bigger in America and with the right really being far right these days. They're certainly not what Europeans call conservative. Obama, on the other hand, fits the bill quite nicely.

I'd go so far as to call him an Edward Heath style Tory, willing to use and fund left wing institutions and social policies to support mderate right wing policies elsewhere.
