why?
Well, let's use a real life example and maybe you'll understand.
Mr. Smith earns $15.00 as a welder. He's separated from his wife and he pays child support of $185.50 per week for two children. He gets no overtime. This leaves him with roughly $285.00 after taxes and child support, to live off of per week. His total monthly income after taxes is $1235.
He has to have a two bedroom apartment so his children have somewhere to sleep when they visit. There is nothing available in a decent part of town for less than $700 per month plus utilities.
Utilities cost $70 a month for electric, $60 a month for gas, $20 a month for water and $35 a month for sewer.
That's $185 a month just for utilities.
He has to drive to work. There's $20 a week for gas in his car. or roughly $80 a month.
Then he has to pay car insurance to the tune of $75. a month.
He is now left with a meager $195 per month on which to feed and entertain his kids while they are with him. He can't afford cable tv or internet.
He makes too much money for food stamps. They look at the income before taxes and child support because they think you can still spend that money. Actually, he makes too much money for most programs and can't claim the kids because they live with his ex-wife.
He's not allowed to claim his kids on his taxes, even though his ex wife does not work. If he claims the children, he will have to pay more support to her.
He can't afford his companies health insurance, so thanks to obamacare, he now has to pay a "fine" or "tax" every year because of not having insurance.
But you keep on thinking, Drippy, that you can live off of $15.00.
