Just listened to Berg's violin concerto properly for the first time. I didn't stick with it the first time. It's better than I remembered it. Maybe I was initially put off by the slow, depressing pace of it.
When googling Prokofiev vs Berg I came across this article. The author mentions Bax quite a bit, a relatively unknown composer as having similar strengths as Prokofiev.
