I can only offer my thoughts, not any definite knowledge on the matter - as per my phrasing. I will offer them gladly, though.
It's like thinking you're a chair instead of a human.
While that is an extreme example, I do feel similarly as far as the point goes.
I'm no expert and I could be wrong, but from a common sense type perspective, thinking/feeling like you're something that you physically/biologically are not, does sound like some sort of disorder.
