Yes, dishonesty is rampant. I think in some cases, they have become so used to employing such techniques to defend their faith at all costs, that they don't even realise they are doing it anymore.
If they actually employed the same levels of arguments and evidence with any other aspect of their lives, I'd be extremely concerned as to how they could function in the world. If you don't act like a sceptic most of the time, you get fucked up one way or another.
