I know that the Islamic holy books (the qur'an and the hadiths) are full of contradictions, but it works well politically: in time of peace, the imams usually tell peace & love verses. In time of war, or when it's needed to instigate people to war and hatred, use the hatred & violence verses. so it works fine.
Anyway, no matter how much one muslim would try to defend a violence verse like this one I have quoted, he can only twist it, because there can be no 'proper interpretation' of the verse to show it as a non-violent: to kill means to kill, a gathering of muslims starting to fight, all at once, in order to kill, means physical damage, no matter how much a muslim would try to play with the words' meanings (e.g. because "fight" usually doesn't mean to fight with words, while "kill" never means to rebuke, or something).
I think it's wrong to say that a terrorist muslim killed someone because of a misinterpretation of the verse, because the islamic holy books need a twisted interpretation from the imams to convince the muslims not to kill and not to physically harm anybody.
