I'll nominate the entire Halo series. I don't actively dislike it, but I never understood why it became so popular. Timesplitters came out at the same time and was way better.
I leave for one minute and we're tearing Halo apart? Sheesh! Haha I've been playing it since Halo: CE, and although the story was enough for me, it was the tight competitive game play that kept me coming back. I try not to look too deeply at the story or it all falls apart lol Especially lately. Halo 5 has probably the worst story of any video game I've ever played, but I play it pretty regularly because its also a return to tight precise competitive multiplayer.
Most of the Call of Duty titles after 4: Modern Warfare (maybe one or two after that were ok). That's a franchise that specializes in jumping the shark, and it's almost proud of it.
I didn't realize I was tearing the series apart when I said I don't dislike it. I never said they were bad games, I say the series is overrated because I don't understand the monumental popularity the franchise has attained based on its lore and setting. The gameplay is fun, I've enjoyed it myself on many occasion, but I don't know what it is about the setting that warrants such a large, dedicated fanbase, that warrants an expanded universe of novels, comic books, web series, and all other manner of merchandise. I don't see why fans love it as much as they do. I'm not saying that they're bad games, I'm saying they're overrated.
I am John Cena's hip-hop album.
