He'll push through as much conservative policies as he's able to. And who knows what the fuck freedoms we have left he'd trample on in the name of fighting terrorism. On the upside, whoever the Democratic nominee is in 2020 would win in a landslide.
You know, we already have this discussion in the wake of our own presidential elections. The moderate cadidate just beat the rabid rightwinger and chemtrail conspiracy nut by a hairs breadth.
I never knew what our president actually is allowed to do, according to the constitution. According to that, an ammendment from the year 1929, he's as powerful as the presidents of the Weimar Republic of old, more powerful than the French president, actually. He's not only commander in chief, which doesn't mean much, considering we're a small country with a small and not too well equipped army. But he's also allowed to appoint supreme court judges. The constitution demands that these have to be recommended by the government, but the president has the right to veto these recommendations until there's a candidate to his liking. He's also allowed to dissolve parliament and to fire the government.
The reason I never knew is because none of our presidents actually made use of all his powers. That's why I considered it to be a ceremonial office. But I shudder to think that any radical could hold this office.
