It’s not a matter of history, it’s a matter of logic. History can’t tell you someone’s motives, but logic can. Since you atheists love to use the Santa analogy I will play along with that one. I don’t believe in Santa, I am an A-stanta-ist. Now let’s say I become the leader of a country, and let’s also say that make I make “A-santa-ism” the official state doctrine or religion. Now let’s say I then go out and start burning down any mall that has a person playing Santa. Let’s also say that I round up all the children who believe in Santa and send them to camps, and execute any who refuse to go. I make such statements as the belief in Santa is holding our country back and we must rid our nation of it. After all this you would sit there and tell me that the atrocities I committed had nothing to do with my a-santa-ism? You have got to be kidding me.
My wife and her family moved here from Russia, and her grandparents had neighbors who were drug out in the street and shot by government officials just because they were Christian Orthodox. So don’t pretend for a second that you know what happened over there because you read some revisionist history book.

Talk about overused. A Christian’s salvation is attested to by their works and fruit of the spirit. If you think someone disregarding all the teachings of Christ and Scripture is still a Christian then go ahead and be naïve, but definitions matter to me.
Actually atheism has no moral code written anywhere, that’s the problem. So you can’t tell Stalin that what he did was wrong, or that he should have done anything different. At least my religion has a moral code.
