Ok, I'll admit I still like Prince's music. And Peter Gabriel. Also Guns n Roses.  

In addition to the above, the 80s spawned a lot more great music -- REM's first two albums, the Cure got big in that era, Soundgarden put out their first two albums in the 80s (both are fantastic!), the Cars until they jumped the shark in 84. The biggest disappointments were the break-up of Steely Dan, and the rise of hair-metal ... and the Cars jumping the shark.

Thankfully, the 90s fixed both those issues.
