If I were in your shoes I would definitely let my parents know that I do not appreciate them manipulating my job schedule so I can attend church. And, being 17, I would also let them know I wouldn't be accompanying them to praise a nonexistent deity. If you feel you can't stand up to your parents in this way, I would attend church but I would make no secret that I thought the whole exercise was stupid. I'd refuse to join in the singing or praying. I also would refuse to participate in the moronic rituals like communion. I'd bring a book or Ipod to pass the time while the service droned on. Maybe if you did this a few times your parents would be embarrassed enough to leave you at home. And once you hit 18 they really have no power to force you to do anything you don't want to do.
