Of COURSE regular-looking people have sex lives. Even uggos like Yours Truly get our share. But you're expecting fantasy (television) to reflect reality (reality), and it doesn't work that way. Television programmes like the ones you're bitching about are aired for one reason and one reason only - to make money. They are manifestly not showcases for brilliant writing and acting, they're money machines. And the reason that pretty people are on them is because most people in RL like looking at pretty people. Not saying it's fair, or right, or even sensible, but it happens to be a brute fact.
If 'sex sells' was an obsolete idea, Steve Buscemi would be getting more roles and bigger paydays than Brad Pitt.

I don't know. I think you are mixing up what some Hollywood executives think with what actually is. The most popular TV shows just don't play out the theory that you need a bunch of unrealistically good looking people on it. Most popular Drama in the last 10 years is Breaking Bad, which has a mix. The most popular Comedy is the Big Bang Theory, which has a mix of good looking and regular looking people. The most popular show right now is House of Cards, which I'm not familar with, but looks like fairly normal looking people. So why are so many people not catching on?
