People aren't allowed to steal toys from you. If the do, they get in trouble if caught. The 4th Amendment protects you from unlawful searches and seizures, and that includes the toys you own. So, without probable cause for the police to take your toy, said toy, and your ownership of it, is constitutionally protected.
As for selling constitutional rights, well, that's a matter of convenience we are paying for. We could make firearms in our garages, but it would be a pain in the ass. It would also be expensive if you didn't already have a lathe and mill. Materials would also be a bit expensive, as you want the good stuff to prevent failures during firing. So, the price we pay for firearms really is a pretty good deal, and convenient.
