That comment was brought on by my personal antipathy to the introduction of the word "votáil X" as the verb form of vote in the Irish language, when we already have a perfectly acceptable formulation "cuir do rogha ar X" (literally, put your choice on X) in the language. The same antipathy goes for the word "carr" introduced in place of the proper word "gluaisteán" for car (well automobiles in general). I don't mind substituting in a foreign word when there is no native equivalent but when there is, it's just simply dumbing down a language.
