Because of the need to placate people like you, trapped in a prism of fear manufactured by others, I'm guessing.  We didn't vet those 800k se asians despite being engaged in or recently having been at war with them.  It's not as if there's anything to indicate that they're actually terrorists, or that they pose a greater risk than domestics..now is there?  

So you're saying the US Government goes through an 18 month vetting process for 70k refugees a year for show?  Is that something you really believe?

Michael McCaul, the Republican chairman of the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, said at a hearing that authorities have identified about 40 violent militants who had attempted to enter Europe posing as refugees.

Also article says US has rejected 30 refugees thus far, and likely more will be rejected.
