I suppose in the weakest sense you could argue that. You could argue that you support a football team from home watching on TV but that's not actually support. That's cheering them on. Support suggests that you are actively helping in some way and making a contribution no matter how small. A supporter will normally be there in the audience cheering so the team can hear them. And a voter can support by casting a single vote.
Look at the responses Bella Morta got when she said she supported Trump. Maelstrom for example saying that it's her choice.
Anyway, don't diss a half German for being somewhat pedantic about language usage. That's half racist!
